Buttoned
I buttoned up my coat I fastened up my shoes I stepped into the cold I had nothing left to lose I faced each fear head on I dismissed them carefully I counted all my blessings I am where I'm meant to be I smiled at passers by I blinked away my tears I focused on the kindness I had felt across the years I did not feel the cold I paid no heed to rain I let my memories wander You were here, with me, again We were walking hand in hand We were laughing off the chill We were dreaming dreams of summer We thought we had time to kill ... Now I button up my coat And I fasten up my shoes Without your hand to hold I have nothing left to lose

This is a beautiful but tragic love poem, dealing with love and its loss. I felt every word of it, especially the last verse:
"Now I button up my coat
And I fasten up my shoes
Without your hand to hold
I have nothing left to lose"
Oh Trudi, this is everything and more. Buttoned.
