Midas
Should we believe The stories old Concerning Midas And his touch of gold Could there not be A crueller fate A wish turned curse Realised too late What mortal man Could allow such greed To overcome A wiser creed To hope for riches And grasp at wealth Yet sacrifice A life of health How did he feel When first he knew His golden touch Would not undo No fruit or wine Could he consume All turned to gold He sealed his doom Yet still his lesson Was not learned He touched his daughter To gold, she turned In seeking riches All was lost His vanity Held a dreadful cost So remember well This story old For all that glitters Is not gold

The message here is the real gold. Love it, Trudi.
"What mortal man/Could allow such greed" - sadly lots of them! But a wonderful tale and a wonderful poem! xo
